Meet the New Ophena X: How Does It Compare With Ophena A and S Pro?
Choosing stirrups comes down to more than appearance. The way they grip your boots, their shape, and how they release all influence your choice.
The new Ophena X brings a fresh option to the range: a classic closed shape with the flexibility to ride with or without magnetic insoles. Here’s how it compares with Ophena A and Ophena S Pro.
Ophena X: Magnetic Grip, With More Choice
Ophena X combines Ophena’s magnetic system with its Diamond Grip tread. According to Ophena, the magnetic connection and tread grip are the same as those on the S Pro. The main difference is the shape - and what that means for everyday use.
While S Pro has an open outer side, X has a classic closed shape. Ophena says riders can use X with magnetic insoles for additional connection or remove them and rely on the tread’s mechanical grip alone. That flexibility is its defining feature.
For riders who like magnetic support but want the option to ride without it, X is an appealing addition.
Ophena X vs. Ophena A
The biggest distinction between X and A is their approach to grip and release.
Ophena A is non-magnetic. It uses Twisters™ as part of a double 360-degree safety-release mechanism. Ophena X incorporates the brand’s magnetic connection instead. Both models share an aluminium tread with diamond-shaped spikes, so choosing A does not mean giving up that tread design.
A also features integrated cushioning beneath the tread, designed to absorb impacts. Riders who prioritise a non-magnetic setup and cushioning may therefore find A the more suitable choice.
Ophena X vs. Ophena S Pro
S Pro pairs magnetic grip with an aluminium Diamond Grip tread and a distinctive open-sided design. Magnetic insoles fit inside your existing riding boots, so special boots are not required.
X offers the same magnetic strength and tread grip in a closed shape. The decision is therefore less about gaining stronger magnets and more about your preferred design and setup. Ophena recommends always using magnetic insoles with S and S Pro; X is expressly designed to offer a choice between magnetic and mechanical grip.

If you compete, check the current rules for your discipline and federation before choosing. A closed shape and permission to use magnetic stirrups are separate considerations, as Ophena’s competition guidance explains. Competition guidance
Ophena X expands the choice for riders who enjoy magnetic grip. Its appeal is straightforward: the familiar outline of a closed stirrup, the grip of S Pro, and the freedom to decide whether magnetic insoles belong in today’s ride.
