Ophena A safety stirrups feature integrated dampening - what is it?

As Ophena S and Ophena S Pro magnetic safety stirrups received such a warm welcome around the world, we at Ophena decided to extend our expertise a little bit further. As our first safety stirrups are geared towards showjumpers and eventers due to their magnetic connection, we decided it was time for us to pamper dressage riders, too.

So, Ophena A was born. The visually pleasing, innovative safety stirrups with a novel technology are now here and available to order exclusively at Ophena.com.

Before we introduce Ophena A better, you should know that it comes with integrated dampening. Today, we will look into this innovative feature.

Ophena A with integrated dampening

Ophena A safety stirrups are designed especially with dressage riders in mind. As dressage riders are not allowed to use magnetic safety stirrups at shows, we wanted to create a safety stirrup they could take to shows as well.

Integrated dampening of the Ophena A safety stirrups

Both dressage riders and showjumpers will appreciate our integrated dampening, because it protects the rider's knees and ankles. The aluminum body of the stirrup has been designed to provide flexibility and shock absorption. On top of that, we also integrated soft rubber elements right between the tread and main body - visually hidden, but with great impact (pun intended). You will see this indicated in red in the video above.

In our tests, riders noticed a difference to other stirrups even though we hadn't told them about the dampening at all. And the first riders already switched from flexible joint stirrups (specifically designed for protecting joints, but not safety stirrups) to the Ophena A. That should mean something!

We should also mention that the treading in the stirrups keeps the rider's foot nicely in place and prevents it from slipping.

In the video below, you will see how Ophena A works.

Who can benefit from integrated dampening?

Anyone can benefit from a softer riding experience. However, especially riders with knee and joint pain (particularly in high-impact disciplines like cross-country, eventers, showjumpers, hunter/jumpers) can benefit from the flexibility and softness our integrated dampening features provide.

Knee pain is pretty common among riders of all disciplines, so it can be smart to get yourself some stirrups with dampening even before you develop knee pain.

The Twister - patent-pending technology

What makes Ophena A different and stand out from the crowd is the patent-pending 360° double safety release technology. The safety mechanism in this stirrup is called the Twister, which is a piece of silicone that anchors at two points of the stirrup. It closes the outer edge of the stirrups during your ride, and easily releases in case of a fall.

Even though The Twister may look simple, it has complex, highly functional geometry that no one else offers. Our Ophena A safety stirrups are exceptional, innovative, and (of course) stylish and visually pleasing.

The Twister comes with your stirrup order, so there is no need to order it separately.
