Eventing is a very exciting and eventful sport. It requires so much endurance and strength from both the horse and the rider. In an eventing show, the rider has to complete three different sections: dressage, showjumping and cross-country. This is taxing and the horse needs to be in absolute top shape, as does the rider.
As eventing can be somewhat dangerous, all eventers should be (and usually are) very safety conscious.
Why are safety stirrups a must-have for eventers?
Eventers must jump fences in the riding arena as well as out in the woods. Though jumping in the ring is fairly safe and the fences break should anything happen, jumping in the woods is a whole different ordeal. In the woods, the rider has to jump over tree trunks and other fences that do not break in case of an accident.
Thus many eventers choose to wear safety vests in addition to helmets when they are out doing their cross-country test. However, another thing that eventers should consider, are safety stirrups.
Safety stirrups will help the rider's foot to get out of the stirrup fast, should they fall - this way the rider will not get dragged behind the horse.
Specifically, Ophena S and Ophena T magnetic safety stirrups are a great choice when jumping cross-country fences. The other side of the stirrup is open, allowing the rider's foot to detach from the stirrup fast. However, the magnet in the insole and in the stirrup aid in keeping the foot in one place.
Before entering a show
Using safety stirrups is absolutely a must when you train and ride on your own at home: this ensures your safety in the best possible manner during training. However, before you enter your local eventing show, you should always check with your equestrian federation if magnetic safety stirrups are allowed at your show.
Note that as of now, German Equestrian Federation has approved our magnetic safety stirrups for all disciplines.
